About this apartment

History of PALAIS SALM: In the 18th century, on the grounds where Palais Salm now stands, there was an archbishop's pupil home owned by the Vienna cardinal Christoph Anton von Migazzi. In 1812 Louis de Montoyer erected at this site a stable building that belonged to Palais Rasumofsky. In 1828 it was demolished again and the current Palais was built. It was built for the builders Leonhard Waller and Wenzel Emanuel Brandler von Brandstein by architect Alois Ignaz Göll. As part of an expansion, in 1851 a pavilion was erected toward Rasumofskygasse. In 1856 Hugo Karl Eduard Salm-Reifferscheidt bought the Palais from Archduke Carl. Prince Salm had it expanded in 1863 and interiorly remodeled. The Palais remained in the Salm-Reifferscheidts until 1902. He also carried out some modernization in the building. From 1923 the Palais was owned by the industrialist Rudolf Thorn and in 1929 came into the possession of Isidor Kreisberg (* 1877, Boryslaw; † 1945, Bergen-Belsen), a owner of coal mines in Galicia. He had the interior of the Palais divided into apartments. In 1938 he was expropriated. World War II the Palais survived without damage and again came into private ownership. Today it is owned by the architectural firm Marschalek.
