Since 1 April 2024 buyers of real estate can be exempt from the land registry fee for the ownership right up to a base amount of 500,000 euro per person and from the fee for the entry of the pledge up to a base amount of overall 500,000 euro (1.1% of the purchase price or 1.2% of the pledge value). If the base amount exceeds 500,000 euro, only the excess portion is subject to the entry fee. From a base amount of 2 million euro, however, the fee exemption is completely dropped. Applications for entry in the land register must be submitted between 1 July 2024 and 30 June 2026. The exemption requires both the registration of the primary residence in the acquired property and the surrender of the life rights to the previous residence.
