Location

Brixen im Thale is a Tyrolean municipality with an area of approx. 31,40 km² and about 2,700 inhabitants. At an elevation of 794 meters above sea level, Brixen sits at the highest point of the Brixental, about 11 km (as the crow flies) west of Kitzbühel, which belongs to its political district.

Brixen is surrounded by a variety of mountain slopes, with Sonnberg to the north and Schattseitn to the south. The municipality comprises the five localities: Brixen im Thale, Feuring, Hof, Lauterbach and Sonnberg; the best known neighbouring municipalities are Ellmau, Kirchberg in Tirol and Söll.

Archaeological finds show that as early as 3000 BC the Celts settled the Brixental, later the Romans followed. The exact origin of the place name is not known, but it probably derives from the Celtic word brigsina, meaning little (fortified) hill or mountain.

With Wörgl and Kitzbühel, Brixen is connected by the B170, the Brixentalstraße; coming from Kufstein or Innsbruck you reach the town via the A12 motorway. By train you conveniently arrive at the modern station in Brixen im Thale and are about 6 minutes on foot from the property.

Destinations such as Munich, Innsbruck or South Tyrol via the Brenner are quickly reachable by car on the motorway.

As a well-known and popular tourist town, Brixen offers a wide range of leisure activities: the demanding ski area around Hohe Salve captivates in winter, as well as the swimming pool and the natural bath directly in Brixen im Thale and also the nearby Schwarzsee, especially in summer.
