NEW: Fee exemption for real estate purchases:

Since April 1, 2024, buyers of real estate up to a tax base of 500,000 euros (per person) can be exempt from land registry fees for ownership rights and for the mortgage right (1.1% of the purchase price or 1.2% of the collateral value). If the tax base exceeds 500,000 euros, only the excess portion is subject to the registration fee. From a tax base of 2 million euros, however, the fee exemption fully expires. Applications for entry in the land register must be submitted between July 1, 2024 and June 30, 2026. The exemption requires both the registration of the main residence in the acquired property and the relinquishment of dwelling rights in the previous apartment. For mortgage-financed purchases, more than 90% of the loan must be used for the purchase or renovation of the property. The acquired home must be inhabited for five years; if it is sold earlier or used as the main residence is given up, the fee will be increased retroactively.
