NEW: Fee exemption for real estate purchases:

Since 1 April 2024 buyers of real estate up to a tax base of 500.000 Euro per person can be exempt from land registry fees for ownership rights and for the pledge (1,1% of the purchase price or 1,2% of the lien value). If the tax base exceeds 500.000 Euro, only the excess part is subject to the entry fee. From a tax base of 2 million Euro the exemption no longer applies in its entirety. Applications for entry in the land register must be submitted between 1 July 2024 and 30 June 2026. The exemption requires both the registration of the principal residence in the acquired property and the relinquishment of the property rights in the previous apartment. For credit-financed purchases more than 90% of the loan must be used for the acquisition or the renovation of the property. The acquired home must be occupied for five years; if it is sold earlier or the main residence is relinquished, the fee will be back-charged.
