Historical significance

The Provostry of Tainach is one of the most historically significant buildings in Lower Carinthia and the entire ensemble is listed as a protected monument.

First mention: 1176 as „Tinach“

Ecclesiastical center: Parish since 1231, official seat of the provostry from 1538

Archdeaconate: Established in 1624 by papal permission, ecclesiastical administrative center for all of Lower Carinthia

Destruction & reconstruction: Severe fire damage around 1600 and 1853, each followed by elaborate restoration

Baroque transformations & conversions: Fundamental redesign in the 17th century, from 1756 by the well-known master builders Laiß & Seebauer
