Berghotel am Schneeberg

The Berghotel Hochschneeberg is a tourism property with gastronomy and 55 beds on Schneeberg in Lower Austria. It is located at an elevation of 1800 meters directly at the end station of the cog railway on Schneeberg. In the 2016 season, approximately 90,000 visitors from home and abroad arrived at the end station, and a portion of them has used the gastronomic offerings in the Berghotel. In addition, there are numerous hikers who stop at the Berghotel and for groups, overnight stays at 1800 meters height with far views are very popular, as well as among seminar participants and events. Due to the exposed weather conditions, only a summer operation from 30.04. to 04.11 is possible. There is no road connection and all deliveries are carried out via the Schneebergbahn. The technical infrastructure (sewage, water, electricity) is available and the mountain rescue also values the location in operations.

The location of the property is unique in a nature reserve, reachable from Vienna in 90 minutes, and enables cooling days in summer, a Sommerfrische indeed!

History: The mountain hotel was built in 1898 according to the plans of the well-known Ringstraße architects Helmer & Fellner. It already had a telephone connection and its own post office. Emperor Franz Joseph visited the mountain hotel in 1902. After World War II the facility was modernized and remained in the possession of ÖBB until 1997. Since then it has been operated successfully by an entrepreneur. Because of age, a successor is now being sought for the first time.
