About this commercial
The predecessor building was the castle Ulrich von Liechtenstein, located on a rocky spur to the southeast of Judenburg. The castle Liechtenstein was first mentioned in 1140 in documents and fell into ruin in the 16th century. Remains of the palace are still preserved today.
Around 1650, the Stift Seckau had the castle built below the ruins of the fortress. The first mention in 1705 in the princely feudal lease letter states: “... that the fortress Liechtenstein has collapsed, whereas below a new castle had been built …” The Freiherren von Königsbrun expanded the castle in the 18th century. In 1814 it was acquired by purchase by Prince Johann I. Josef von und zu Liechtenstein, later it came into the hands of the State of Styria.
Current use
The well-preserved castle was renovated several times up to 2001; it housed a state boarding school. The Neu-Liechtenstein castle complex is under monument protection. The castle was acquired in 2019 by Schloss Liechtenstein Betriebs GmbH and further renovated.
