High above the Almtal, a mountain operation has developed that today is far more than a hotel or a restaurant. The Hochberghaus – a house that to this day lives on hospitality, tradition and a special connection to nature.

The story begins in 1969, when the father of the current operators laid the foundation for Hochberghaus up here. Many of the original elements have remained to this day – above all the cozy stube with its distinctive character. Over the years the house was expanded and developed step by step, without losing its original charm.

When you arrive here, you quickly notice: Hochberghaus is not a standardized hotel. It is a house with personality – shaped by artisanal details, Austrian flair and the special atmosphere of a real mountain operation.

The mountain as a living space

Kasberg counts among the most significant ski and hiking mountains in the region. In recent years, the ski operation has been reorganized and economically stabilized. The planned integration of the Almtal cable cars into the Upper Austrian ropeway holding company is regarded as an important step for the long-term securing and further development of the site.

With this perspective, winter sport on Kasberg is being strengthened in a sustainable way as well. The piste runs directly past the house – guests come from the slope directly into Hochberghaus. The Schialm right on the slope has for many years been a popular meeting point for winter sports enthusiasts.

In summer the mountain shows a quieter side. Hiking trails, natural experiences and the view far over the valley shape the surroundings. Families, hikers and people who consciously seek a break find here a place where you get a special quality.

Many guests keep coming back – because of the view, the calm and the special atmosphere that can only be conveyed here.

A house with character

Today Hochberghaus brings together several areas under one roof: hotel operations, gastronomy, wellness, events and nature experiences.

The cosy lounges with fireplace ambience, the sun terrace with a view over the valley and the rustic Schialm directly on the slopes create an atmosphere that immediately captivates guests. An especially notable detail is that it was built over two summers, in traditional craftsmanship. It stands as a symbol of the attention to detail and the authenticity that characterize this house. Culinary-wise the Hochberghaus has also earned a name over the years. The cuisine is down-to-earth and Austrian in influence, with regional specialties and popular classics – from hearty pan dishes to the well-known Kaiserschmarrn.

Who climbs Hochberghaus does not enter a single building, but a place that unfolds across several levels and buildings.

The main building forms the center of the house. Here are the traditional lounges, the central dining area, and the large sun terrace from which the view opens far over the Almtal. In the upper floors are the guest rooms, while in the lower area the infrastructure of the operation is housed.

Directly from the main building you reach the Schialm, which is connected via the kitchen area. In winter it becomes a lively meeting point for winter sports enthusiasts who drop in directly from the slope. In this part of the building is also the seminar and events area, complemented by a platform above the slope, which provides a special framework for events.

The Familienalm forms another part of the house. It is connected to the main building via an underground passage and houses additional lounge areas as well as the wellness area with sauna, relaxation areas, massage room – a quiet retreat after a day on the mountain.

Above the Familienalm there is also an unbuilt attic – a room full of possibilities. Perhaps here one day a private suite with a view over the Almtal, an exclusive yoga or fitness area for guests, a small cinema room, or a very personal retreat high up on the mountain will emerge.

Thus, around Hochberghaus arises an interplay of lively meeting points and quieter areas – connected with one another, and yet each with its own atmosphere.

A place for encounters

Over the decades Hochberghaus has always been a place where people come together. Festivals, music events and special events have enlivened this place for many years – from brass band festivals to events with several thousand visitors.

Today Hochberghaus is also used for weddings, celebrations and seminars. The special location on the mountain gives these occasions an atmosphere that clearly differs from classic venues.

The north slope which runs directly past has always been the most famous family slope, as skiing has been taught here for generations. Ski schools and families are thus on site and use Hochberghaus offerings daily.

A winter day when the first skiers drop in directly from the slope, while outside the afternoon slowly moves across Kasberg. The history of the house

1969 the cornerstone for the current operation is laid on Kasberg. From an initial inn, a mountain operation gradually develops over the years.

In the 1970s the first guest rooms are created. With the growing ski operation at Kasberg, Hochberghaus also develops further.

In the 1980s the Schialm is built – in traditional craftsmanship and hand-planed over two summers. It quickly becomes an important meeting point for winter sports enthusiasts.

In the following decades further extensions and improvements are created – from new gastronomic areas to infrastructure measures to wellness and seminar areas. Today Hochberghaus is an established mountain operation with hotel, gastronomy, events, wellness and direct location on the piste – carried by more than five decades of history at Kasberg. By now there are a total of 51 beds in rooms of various sizes and fittings. Gastronomy of very high quality which specializes in Pfandlgerichte and is known across Austria for it. The wellness area convinces with a sauna offer and in addition with pre-booked massages.

A new chapter for a special place

After more than five decades Hochberghaus now faces a new chapter. The owners want to hand the house into hands that value its history and at the same time bring in new ideas. The ongoing operation can be taken over seamlessly – including inventory and a proven team. This offers a rare opportunity to continue an established mountain operation and carefully develop it into the future.
