Adjacent to the living room and dining area there is a approximately 15 m² terrace.

Location

Schandorf, Croatian Čemba, Hungarian Csém, is a bilingual municipality in the district of Oberwart in Burgenland. It covers about 11 km² and has about 280 inhabitants. The district capital is about 20 km away.

The municipality of Schandorf is constantly striving to offer something for all generations so that people in the town feel comfortable. In the town there is a café and a guesthouse as well as a greissler wagon with the essential groceries. In Schandorf, in 2023 the first trilingual Burgenland care home (German, Croatian and Hungarian) was opened.

A lively club life (fire brigade, Tamburizza, Kinderfreunde, Traktor-Club, Pensionistenverein and Kulturverein) ensures that you quickly make connections or find new friends in the town. A shuttle service has been set up for kindergarten and school children. Thus your children get safely to kindergarten or school and back home again.

History

The area around Schandorf was settled as early as the Iron Age and probably was the center of the entire area. In the Schandorf forest there are 170 tumuli, up to 16 meters high and up to 40 meters in diameter. The graves date from the Hallstatt period.

Documentarily the village community was first named in 1244 as "villa Chem" when the Hungarian king Béla IV transferred the old castle Óvár to the lords of Csém/Schandorf for rebuilding. At that time Schandorf was a German-settled farming village belonging to the Hungarian border-guard and protection settlement of the Gyepű system.

After in the 15th century the fate of Schandorf was closely linked with the lordship of Schlaining under Andreas Baumkircher, the village came into the possession of the Counts Batthyány, who repopulated the village in 1543 with Croatian peasants after it had been depopulated by the Turkish wars.

The municipal seal of 1872 shows a standing sheaf of grain with two crossed grain ears with a sickle and bears the Hungarian inscription "Csémi Község" (Gemeinde Schandorf). Since 1898, due to the Magyarization policy of the government in Budapest, the Hungarian place name Csém had to be used.

After the annexation of Burgenland to Austria in 1921, Schandorf only became part of Austria on 10. Jänner 1923 as one of the last reconnected villages.

Due to the Municipal Structure Improvement Act, Schandorf was merged on 1 January 1971 together with Dürnbach and Schachendorf into the Großgemeinde Schachendorf. Since 1995 Schandorf is again its own municipality.

Border crossing Schandorf–Narda

Since 1 June 2007 the municipality of Schandorf has a border crossing to Hungary, which may be used only on foot, by bicycle or on horseback. From this border crossing you reach directly the Hungarian neighboring municipality Narda.

Miscellaneous

The property can be taken over immediately after completion and escrow processing.
