Historic castle complex with historical, impressive substance

This in need of renovation, listed defensive building together with the associated pavilion and archway is first mentioned in history books in 1202 and, due to its considerable age, looks back on a fascinating existence.

Old trees in the access area testify to the intact nature in Sankt Lorenzen im Mürztal and welcome visitors to a total of 8.300m² open land, which still shows the remains of a moat of the former water castle and encloses the existing buildings well. Even here the history of the long-standing family ownership can be guessed.

The usable area in the historic castle is divided into

• 590m² ground floor/cellar with boiler room and entrance area without courtyard,
• 460m² on the 1. upper floor,
• 550m² on the 2. upper floor
• raw attic.

The adjacent residential house with two separate residential units has an area of a total of approx. 260m² again, distributed over ground floor, 1. upper floor and attic. Garages for three cars and old storage sheds are also available.

The approx. 120m² large courtyard of the castle can serve as an enchanting and special ambience for many occasions: whether a tourist or commercial use, as a museum or gallery, event rooms for weddings or concerts, seminar rooms or markets, etc. The possibilities are almost limitless here.

At the beginning of the 20th century, structural adaptations and modernization measures were carried out inside the castle, as well as the residential house, in order to be able to use the enormous usable area for up to 24 rental apartments. These measures included renovations of roof trusses and roof coverings, partial window replacement, connection to the municipality's supply and disposal lines, installation of a central gas heating system, drying works on affected external walls, construction of a new access road and parking areas.

Until recently, several families inhabited the continuously maintained apartments in the castle and residential house.

In order to determine the actual age and condition of the historic walls concretely, building-historical investigations were recently commissioned. An origin of the original masonry around the 12. to 13. century was clearly confirmed by this and a request for the demolition of the castle has been submitted to the competent authorities. The building application together with approved conversion planning is available for inspection and construction work has already begun in the north wing.
