Historic commercial building and former tannery on Landtorberg

Leather processing has held a special importance in Judenburg since the Middle Ages. “Lederer” are already mentioned in municipal documents from the 13th and 14th centuries. Even then, the leather processors operated their workshops at Landtorberg.

Until the 70s of the 20th century, the Bruckmüller family also operated a tannery and a thriving trade in hides and leather at this address.

The buildings at the address Landtorberg 22 served the Bruckmüller family as a residence, business premises and separate tannery on the property below. The hides to be dried were then stored in the roof structure of the main building, which was well ventilated by dormer-like roof openings. Entering from the street at ground level, there was the sales area; the living area extending over 2 floors above offers spacious living rooms with old wooden floors and box windows. The original kitchen, several bedrooms and a modernized bathroom, like the living rooms, do not conceal the fact that major renovation and refurbishment work is required for habitation in keeping with modern standards.

The building in need of renovation is not listed as a historical monument.

Property:

The property at Landtorberg has a plot size of 4.167 m². The plot slopes down from Landtorberg Straße to Puchbachgasse and is completely enclosed.

In the lower area, at Purbachgasse, the former tannery is located as an outbuilding. There is also a smaller wooden barn accessible by vehicle from above and from Landtorberg.

Numerous fruit trees grow on the property, which has been maintained to this day. The property areas are designated as a General Residential Area with a building density of WA 0,2-1,4 in the municipal land-use plan.
