About this house

Wood. Light. Space. A home conceived differently.

There are houses whose special character cannot be explained by a single feature. Here, it is the interplay of architecture, materials, light and space.

A home with its own architectural language, unusual spatial proportions and a consistent combination of wood and glass was created on approx. 160 m² of living space. The generous south-facing glazing opens the house towards the garden and allows light to penetrate deep into the interior across both residential levels.

Space that opens upwards

The heart of the house is the open living area. While the room heights vary from approx. 2.77 m to approx. 3.88 m depending on the area, the central living space opens up to the ridge and reaches an impressive height of approx. 7.80 m there.

Exposed wood, the open roof structure, gallery levels and the extensive glazing create a sense of spaciousness that can hardly be expressed in square metres alone.

The view travels from the living area across the galleries to beneath the roof structure – at the same time, the natural material wood preserves a warm and homely atmosphere.

Wood as a structure – and as part of the living experience

The building was constructed using a solid timber structure. The photographs from the construction phase impressively show how large-format wall, ceiling and roof elements were assembled to create the distinctive building structure.

Here, wood is not hidden behind cladding, but deliberately made visible as part of the architecture. Ceilings, roof surfaces, wall areas, built-ins and structural details define the character of the house.

Solid timber elements are characterised, among other things, by their high density and heat-storage capacity.

Open-plan living – yet with opportunities for retreat

On the ground floor, the kitchen, dining and living areas form the spacious centre of the home.

The open kitchen with a high-quality fitted kitchen, plenty of work surface and brand-name appliances flows seamlessly into the living area. A centrally positioned cube structures the open space and accommodates functional ancillary areas.

From the kitchen and living area, you can go directly onto the generous terrace and onwards into the garden.

This level also includes, among other things, an office/study, a sauna area with shower and another bedroom with access to the terrace.

The fireplace as the centre of the original heating concept

The generous open fireplace in the living area plays a special role.

It is not only a design focal point, but is also directly connected to the house’s original idea: heat from wood as a conscious part of living.

The fire, the open spatial structure, the visible timber construction and the large glass surfaces form a comprehensive concept – here, heat is not only generated technically, but deliberately becomes part of the atmosphere of the house.

At the same time, provision has been made for the future: connections for supplementing or switching to an alternative heating system, for example an air-source heat pump with an outdoor unit, have already been prepared.

This makes it possible to supplement the original concept with modern building-services options.

Galleries, bedrooms and special perspectives

The upper floor opens up around the central living area via the staircase.

Among other things, it contains three bedrooms, a bathroom and additional gallery and retreat areas.

Two of the bedrooms have their own gallery levels. Another opens onto the balcony or terrace. An atelier area and additional storage space in the roof area complement the available space.

These levels and galleries make it particularly clear: this house defines space not only by area, but also by height.

The original design plans already show this deliberate division across several levels as an essential part of the building concept.

The living space does not end at the glass frontage

The large glass surfaces create a flowing transition onto the terraces and into the garden.

Here you will find a swimming pool with sea salt water, a whirlpool for approx. five to six people, generous terrace areas and a lovingly landscaped garden.

In the summer months, a mature arbour area provides natural shade and creates a sheltered place outdoors.

A technical or garden house complements the outdoor facilities.

Not a standard house

This home does not follow a classic standard floor plan.

Approx. 160 m² of living space, room heights of up to approx. 7.80 m, a solid timber structure, extensive glazing, galleries and the consistent connection between indoor and outdoor spaces create a living experience with an identity all of its own.

Those looking exclusively for a classic sequence of rooms may not find what they are looking for here.

However, anyone who appreciates open-plan living, natural materials, unusual spaces and individuality should not judge this house solely by its floor plans and photographs.

You have to enter it, look upwards and experience the space.
