The present Schloss Pottendorf was built around 1090 as a castle and was at that time the center of the town. In the early 19th century a spinning mill was opened, which brought economic upswing to the town; around 1835 it was considered the largest cotton yarn spinning mill of the monarchy and was closed only in 1976.
