Location

Seyring near Vienna lies in Lower Austria on the northern border of Vienna and as the only municipality of the Wien-Umgebung district on the left bank of the Danube. Seyring belongs to the larger municipality of Gerasdorf. The area of the larger municipality covers 35,2 square kilometers. 1,17 percent of the area is forested.

Transportation

The rapid transit station (S2) is reachable in about 3 minutes on foot (281 m). With the S2 (rapid transit) you can reach, for example: Vienna, Wolkersdorf, Mistelbach, or Laa an der Thaya. The rapid transit takes about 7 minutes to Vienna.

By car, you need about 5 minutes to the Vienna city boundary (about 3,0 km). At the new highway interchange S1 you are about 2 minutes away.

Infrastructure

In Seyring itself there is a kindergarten, a primary school, a pub, leisure club, after-school club, hunting association, culture, sports and beautification association, riding stable, SC Seyring, Stemm club, tennis club, volunteer fire brigade, wine friends, etc.

For shopping you drive to Gerasdorf (Hofer, Ströck, Zielpunkt, pharmacy, Billa, etc.) or to Wolkersdorf, or to the fifth-largest shopping center – G3 on Brünner Straße.

History

In the Austrian heartland of Lower Austria, at the edge of the Marchfeld, lies Seyring. In 1805 the cadastral municipality Gerasdorf was constituted. After the Anschluss to the Third Reich in 1938 the town of Vienna was incorporated. In 1954 the municipality – with the Territorial reform law and the reintegration of the Wiener Randgemeinden into the state of Lower Austria – became independent again. Only in 1972 was the municipality of Seyring incorporated into the municipality of Gerasdorf.

In May 1992 Gerasdorf was elevated to a market municipality. On 17 December 1998 the Provincial Parliament of Lower Austria approved the urban status of Gerasdorf.

The oldest places in the municipality are Gerasdorf and Seyring. Gerasdorf is first mentioned around 1200 in the Klosterneuburgიტ Tratitonsbuch; "Viricus des Gerhartesdorf" is a witness to a donation to the monastery.

The oldest documentary references to Seyring also date from the 11th century; there are early mentions as "Seuringe". It is said that a ring of lakes once surrounded the village, which could be the origin of the place name.

In the current cadastral municipality of Seyring there was, in World War II, the airfield Seyring with the code name "Wetterfrosch" as well as an air combat school (Vienna-Seyring). During the Balkan Campaign 1941, the 4.(F) Reconnaissance Group 121 of the Air Force was stationed there. From 1944 this military airfield was the target of Allied air attacks. Bomb craters in the surrounding forests and remnants of this airfield – such as the concrete runway, earth embankments around former gun positions and foundation remnants of the hangars – are still visible in and around Seyring today.
