About this apartment
There are houses that have already received an emperor. The Kammerhof is one of them: Since 1453 the Salzamtmann resided here and administered the salt monopoly of the entire Imperial Kammergut for the Habsburgs. Emperor Friedrich III. and his son Maximilian I. personally honored this place with their presence – whose coat of arms fresco from 1490 still adorns the façade today. For centuries the Kammerhof was the representative center of the town: administrative seat, civic house, venue for house concerts and today partly a museum. A part of this historic building can now be inhabited: Top 7, on the first floor – where once the lordly living and reception rooms were located.
What the centuries have left in the substance has now been thoughtfully reorganized. The apartment was completely adapted and redivided – no interim tenant has ever lived in these rooms, no foreign habit has left its traces. It is a first occupancy, in a house that has stood for over five hundred years.
You enter the apartment through a light-flooded vestibule of over 16 m² and follow the newly laid herringbone parquet by Trapa under Gothic cloister vaults, original from the 15th century, carefully preserved. It leads into a 51 m² living kitchen with a freestanding natural stone island and a blue-white tiled floor that recalls the great trading history of the house without imitating it. The kitchen itself is a carpenter's work, finest quality, which you only understand when you open a drawer and notice how quietly it closes. Nowhere was spared here – you do not see it at first glance, you feel it at the second. Right behind it the balcony opens: lake view, mountain view, a passenger ship leisurely making its rounds on the Traunsee – a picture that has hardly changed for one and a half centuries.
The apartment includes two bedrooms, a guest room and two generously renovated bathrooms whose tiles come from Italy – of the kind you do not price, you simply step into and know what you are dealing with. In addition a storage room and a passenger lift that provides comfortable access to the floor. Central heating, double glazing in the historic window frames and external sun protection provide contemporary comfort without taking away the character of the house.
And yet all this is right in the middle of the life of the town:
- 75 m to the tram
- 100 m to the bus
- 125 m to the bakery
- 200 m to doctor and supermarket
- 300 m to the post office
Those who live here do not have to choose between the old town and the lake view.
