About this office

The monumental and representative bank building is a masterwork by the architects Ernst Gotthilf and Alexander Neumann and was built from 1909 to 1912 for the Wiener Bankverein. For this, a Ringstraßenbau from 1861 to 1863 had to be demolished; it was the first demolition in the Ringstraßenzone.

The building itself was constructed in the secessionist-neoclassical style and erected at the exposed location, freestanding on three sides, at the corner of Schottenring/Schottengasse. Since 1934 it was the headquarters of Creditanstalt-Bankverein; in 2002 it went to Bank Austria.

The building is built around a cross-shaped inner tract and four glass-covered inner courtyards.

On the façades facing the Schottenring and the Schottengasse the middle risalites stand out clearly.

On the corner risalites on the Ringstraße there are sculpted figures visible above triangular gables, each depicting two youths with a ship’s bow or a globe.

Through an elaborate revitalization, this historic jewel of Vienna’s history is given a modern character. The overarching premise, however, is the sustainable preservation of the historic substance, so the princely rooms undergo a pure refurbishment.

The infrastructure of the house is particularly impressive due to the internal synergies that arise.

The house offers, in addition to a supermarket, a fitness center and gastronomy, also an automated safe-deposit facility / 24h safe.

The supermarket area is located in the bank's former cashier room and, through the historically imposing ambiance, provides a unique shopping experience.

To round off the uniqueness of this house, the prestigious and well-connected location at Schottentor should also be mentioned.

The accessibility is excellent, and its proximity to numerous gastronomic and urban-planning highlights speaks for itself.
