The house of the Portois & Fix company, which was active in furniture manufacturing and interior fittings, was built between 1899 and 1901 at their behest by Max Fabiani in Vienna's 3rd municipal district, Landstraße, at Ungargasse 59–61.

Directly attached are the properties Barichgasse 40-42, respectively Barichgasse 38, and all three together form an ensemble with a huge courtyard, in which on the one hand the entrance to the house's own underground garage is located, and on the other a large number of parking spaces are available, or it simply serves for a brief relaxation in the fresh air.
