Since 1 July 2024, real estate buyers in Austria benefit from a new regulation that provides significant financial relief. Earlier this year, the government decided on a housing package that includes exemption from fees for land register and pledge entries. But what exactly does this mean for buyers? Here's an overview:
- Since 1 July 2024, buyers of real estate up to 500.000 Euro (per person) can be exempt from land register and pledge entry fees (1.1 percent of the purchase price or 1.2 percent of the pledge value).
- This applies to purchase contracts since April 2024. Applications for entry in the land register could be submitted from 1.7.2024.
- The exemption requires the registration of the main residence in the acquired property and the disposal of the previous apartment.
- For loan-financed purchases, more than 90% of the loan must be used for the acquisition or renovation of the property.
