The Maurer Wald is a larger, predominantly wooded recreational and excursion area on the southwestern edge of Vienna (mainly in the 23rd Viennese municipal district Liesing). It covers around 4 km² and belongs to the Wienerwald Biosphere Park as well as to the European protected area Wienerwald-Thermenregion. The Maurer Wald borders directly to the north on the district Kalksburg in the 23rd district of Vienna. Kalksburg is located immediately south of the forest, in the Liesing valley, so the forest is not far away – you can reach paths in the Maurer Wald on foot from Kalksburg. Hiking trails and promenades connect Kalksburg directly with forest paths in the Maurer Wald, e.g. via the Kalksburger Straße and smaller paths that run along the forest edge. From the center of Kalksburg, forest paths are reachable within a few minutes, so walks or hikes are possible without a long drive. In short: The Maurer Wald lies immediately north of Kalksburg, is easy to reach and together with the surrounding recreational areas forms a direct, green transition from the neighborhood into the Vienna Woods.
