This house has stood up here in Altenberg for over 100 years now, and it is quite obvious that someone chose a pretty good spot for it back then. On a hill, surrounded by greenery, one with nature. Much of the old was allowed to remain, while other things were adapted over the years – and today it is precisely this mixture of old, well-kept and a little individual that gives it its charm.

The garden has received at least as much attention over all these years. Particularly beautiful is the generous, level garden area directly by the conservatory, which almost seems like a small garden of its own. This is probably where most of the life takes place in summer anyway: From the conservatory, you go directly out onto the terrace; under the pergola there is a sheltered seating area, right next to it the brick-built barbecue, and all around, the lush, lovingly maintained planting provides plenty of privacy. Even a palm tree has found its place here, completing the almost Mediterranean feeling. It is one of those areas where images immediately come to mind – long breakfasts, friends around the barbecue and summer evenings that are allowed to last a little longer.

And while behind the house you almost disappear into your own green world, on the other side the magnificent view over the surroundings opens up again towards the Danube. Two completely different sides of a garden – and each has its very own appeal.
