At first glance, everything here seems like a declaration of love to summer. At second glance, you realize that this house actually wants to collect stories through all four seasons.

Along the Danube, past small villages, lots of greenery, open windows and that feeling that the city is slowly disappearing in the rear-view mirror. And then you have finally arrived — in the Greifenstein-Altenberg recreational area. With its Danube. Its lido. Its very own summer feeling that somehow works immediately.

You do not have to drive far away to feel far away here. Sometimes just 40 minutes of driving are enough to find your own little refuge.

Away from the road, you enter another world here. Little houses stand in rows, each person meticulously attentive to their small kingdom. Everyone knows everyone here, people still greet each other over the fence and usually know exactly who has just fired up the grill.

Parking spaces are scarce, and cars are barely visible. Here, people place greater value on a holiday feeling and extensive quiet zones. All the more comfortable your car feels, parked right next to the entrance.

From the front, the house appears almost pleasantly reserved. It becomes all the more surprising when you go inside and suddenly realize how much space, light and life are actually hidden here.

And one more thing quickly becomes clear: This house is much more than a classic summer house. Even if the surroundings, the Danube and the pergola convey exactly that impression. The house, built in 1986, was extensively renovated in 2015 and can be used year-round. In fact, it is less a summer house than a small home that happens to stand right in the middle of a summer paradise.

You reach the house via the masonry double staircase. And there, exactly that cozy atmosphere awaits you which cannot be created by furnishing. The large kitchen-living room with exposed wooden beams brings in almost a little hut feeling, although traditional dress is not required. Lots of wood, lots of light, large windows and exactly that mood in which you immediately believe that evenings here regularly last longer than planned.

The floor looks like wood but is pleasantly easy to maintain — therefore much more relaxed for real life. The kitchen fits perfectly into its niche, with the large dining area in front of it for family, friends and everyone who actually only intended to stay briefly. While the garden hums somewhere outside, you sit surprisingly comfortably indoors and suddenly realize how quiet a day can actually become.

A chimney connection could additionally create an all-year feeling. Because this house does not work only in July and August. You can just as easily imagine autumn fog over the Danube, the first cool morning hours or a winter day when everything outside has become quiet and warmth is waiting inside. So far, it has been heated without problems with infrared panels.

This level also contains a small bedroom, a bright utility room and a surprisingly smart bathroom with a shower, WC and even two windows.

Finally, the wooden staircase leads up to the already finished upper floor. And up there, a room suddenly awaits that you would not expect from outside at all. Bright, open, friendly and with this wonderful view out over the small houses towards the meadows and hilly landscape. Almost a little like a tree house for adults.

Perfect as an additional sleeping area, retreat, guest accommodation, studio, playroom or simply as the famous “upstairs” that you suddenly no longer want to be without later.

The garden is a chapter of its own anyway. On around 380m², with every step you understand the atmosphere of this place a little better. Raised beds, shrubs, lots of greenery, everything beautifully established and alive in that charming way that cannot be bought ready-made in one summer. It hums, flutters and chirps here. Birds, insects and probably one or another cheeky garden creature clearly feel at home — and are obviously very welcome.

Even diligent watering does not make anyone work up a sweat here. A private well supplies the garden with water free of charge.

The pergola almost seems like a small branch of the house, a little summer living room under the open sky. A place for long evenings, lukewarm nights and conversations that may eventually become completely unimportant. You probably sit here more often “just five more minutes” — and later wonder why it is suddenly midnight.

And somewhere underneath, the pillar level also understands a surprising amount about summer. The well-equipped summer kitchen not only saves you from constantly climbing the stairs during garden parties — it usually quickly becomes the secret center of the evening.

Right next to it is the homeowner’s small workshop. While cooking, eating and chatting take place on one side, work may be done on the other. One person cuts tomatoes, the other importantly searches for tools, and somewhere someone is probably just deciding that perhaps they will stay one day longer tomorrow after all.

And if you eventually feel drawn towards the Danube, it is practically right here in front of the house. Swimming, paddling, surfing or simply sitting with your feet in the water and pretending that you still have an awful lot planned for today.
