• Why is living in a shared flat in Linz so popular? Because it is affordable, sociable and uncomplicated. Shared rent, communal spaces and flexible rental periods make flatshare living a practical alternative to having your own apartment – especially in a city where housing is in high demand.
• What does a typical shared-flat room in Linz look like? A typical shared-flat room is between 10 and 25 m² and offers space for a bed, desk and storage. Many rooms are already furnished, while others allow space for individual design. Common areas such as kitchen, bathroom and living room are shared, often with access to a balcony or terrace. This creates a pleasant mix of privacy and community.
• Where can you find shared-flat rooms in Linz? Central neighborhoods, e.g. around the Johannes Kepler University or in Urfahr, are particularly popular because they offer short distances to educational institutions, shops and leisure facilities. Those who prefer quieter surroundings can find larger flatshares on the city outskirts with more space and lower rents, often with good bus or tram connections.
• When is it particularly worth searching? Mainly at the start of the semester or when internships change, many rooms become available. At these times platforms like Lystio are especially helpful, as they aggregate current offers and enable quick contact.

A shared-flat room is a room in an apartment or a house that is shared with others. Everyone has their own room while the kitchen, bathroom and often the living room are used jointly.

In Linz, where many study or start their careers, this form of housing is especially popular: it is cheaper than having your own apartment and offers the chance to meet new people. In addition, flatshares are flexible – some rent only for one semester, others for several years.

Demand is high, so it is worth searching via platforms such as Lystio.
